Almost a year ago today I met the most amazing group of girls. Moving 9 hours away from home, to a place where I knew absolutely no one, all by myself was terrifying. But when I met these 4 girls, I knew instantly that this is where God called me to be and that everything would be alright.
We were all transfers from other colleges who got placed into the same dorm building. Since most of the people in that dorm were transfer students, they made us all do ice breakers and different activities to get to know each other. Right away we all clicked and became close friends. We started going to church together and even joined a few Christian clubs on campus. I shared with them this sermon series I watched and how we should all watch it together. That then started our weekend Bible studies.
As the semester went on, I felt the Lord really tugging at my heart to ask the girls about sharing their testimonies in our Bible study. But I kept pushing it back. It was one of those things God calls you to do but when you say no the first time He doesn’t stop and he keeps on persisting. In everything I did God brought it up somehow. Through Church, devotionals, a friend, and so on. He started teaching me how important testimonies were. And then I heard something that made my hesitation turn into a yes. It was;
“Some of us will obey what God told you to do but you won’t tell others. So, what God did was put to silence.”
We as Christians are called to live like Jesus did. What does that mean? Loving others like he did and sharing God’s word and goodness. God did not stop doing good works after the Bible was written, no, He does new works and wonders every day.
“For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps.” 1 Peter 2:21
When we first discussed sharing our testimonies, we were just going to share it amongst ourselves. Until one night while I was typing mine up I realized how just telling my close friends wouldn’t be enough. Then God gave me the idea of starting the website. The next morning was November 24 2019; I told the girls I had a big idea and that tonight at 8 pm we need to all get together. When I told them my idea to my surprise they were just as excited about it as I was. That night we came up with a plan and the name Testify for the website.
We all worked very hard on this website. It was super stressful at times, especially being full time college students. We finally launched it January 3 2020!! It was the most scary and exciting thing ever. It is so amazing seeing others share their testimonies to our website. It has definitely been a challenge at times to balance our everyday lives and school as well as Testify, but we could feel God’s calling to us to use our platform, no matter the size, to encourage others with our stories of God’s grace and redemption. There has been a lot of trial and error, and it is nowhere near perfect, but God doesn’t ask for perfect. He just asks us to try, and to obey Him.
“And he did not permit him but said to him, 'Go home to your friends and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has mercy on you." Mark 5:19
