Lauren's Testimony

I was 11 when diagnosed with thyroid cancer. At that age you do not understand what is really happening. You only hear those around you talking about how serious it is; how you will have to spend a week away from your family for radiation treatment at Duke. You visit your oncologist and surgeon, they tell your parents this and that and they try to carry on like everything is fine.

Reality check...it's not. Your mom cries every night, your dad is worried at work, and you're trying to figure out what will happen to you. Our neighbors, Gene and Cythina held a prayer circle the week of my surgery. I remember sitting there with Gene's hand on my shoulder asking our Father to heal me. A warmth came over my body and my mind was at peace. A peace I have never experienced before. Visualize a jungle with birds flying, a beautiful waterfall, and the sun shining on you. At this moment I knew I would be okay. Our Father was with me.

Fast forward a few days later to my surgery; after 4 hours, Dr. Seal approached my parents and stated "you must be living right. I don't believe it is cancer, but we have to send it off for the pathology report to confirm." Days later we receive the results, and sure enough it was benign. Benign! After my initial biopsy results being cancerous how is this possible? Because our Father is with us always. He will answer your prayers. He will guide you. He will never abandon you. God is so good! In your weakest moments He is there. Miracles happen to those who believe in them.
